Genpopu |
An overview of the software "Genpopu" You may find more detailed infos in the help file that comes with the program. |
Given one gene with up to four allels
the software emulates the allelic frequency variations inside a given population.
This software was designed for pupils in high school's terminal year some years ago,
when notions about population genetics were introduced on the syllabus.
Large changes in allelic frequencies, occurring without any selection pressure,
can be observed when running the simulation.
This may call for caution and help not to see adaptation behind any kind of change
observed in a natural environment.
It can be used to simulate effects such as genetic drift or founder effect
and have these notions appear more clearly.
